Last Thursday a few of us got together and geeked out online. It was a good time for all. There was lots of shooting, running, standing and getting shot. Nothing makes me giggle more than being run over in the game we were playing or yelling "Bootyjuice, Gonna get it on you!!" (Bootyjuice is my player name) after I shoot another player. We played Unreal Tournament 2K4. So if you are interested in getting owned or tasting a little smackdown let me know and I can hook you up. We are going to try and do it once a month. What I really need to find is a superhero skin for my character...I am going to do some research.


Football with my 3rd graders has been moving along nicely. We are 2 - 1 -1. Our players are getting better which each game. It is amazing to watch them "get it" during a game. This years team is really big into congratulating each other if they make a good play or score. We have a kid that is pretty big on our team and a running back that is very small. The small guy ran for a touchdown and the big guy lifted him over his head in celebration. It was pretty cool.
I had a kid who didn't understand that you should also look for someone to block after you block your first man, come back and block a man this week that saved our quarterback from being caught in the backfield and turned it into a 15 yard run. It's the little things like that that make it really cool to watch them.

If you have cable and you have Cartoon Network you are doing yourself a disservice by not checking out the show Venture Bros. It's a parody of the Johnny Quest cartoon. The characters are matched pretty evenly(each character from the Quest series is parodied) and the supervillains are really funny.
Here is a short synopsis" "It's called "The Venture Bros." and at it's core it's kind of a parody of the old Jonny Quest cartoons from the mid-sixties, as well as The Hardy Boys and Tom Swift boys' adventure novels of the past. So it's got elements of adventure, spy, science fiction and even some comic book genre stuff. The Venture brothers, Hank and Dean, are fraternal twins; teenaged idiots who think, act and talk like it's the sixties (though it takes place in the present). They're the sons of Dr. Venture, a world renowned scientist (mostly world renowned due to the reputation of his late father, who though we don't see him in the pilot was about as cool as Doc Savage in his day) who can't really stand them. Doc pops "diet pills" like candy and reeks of failure and unrealized potential. Their family bodyguard, Brock Samson, is a former secret agent who responds to any and all crises with relentless, remorseless brutality. He's kind of a white trash James Bond/Steve McQueen.
In the pilot episode, the family travels to New York City because Doc is scheduled to present his latest invention at an international science convention at the United Nations. They are pursued by The Monarch--a megalomaniacal, butterfly-themed supervillain unworthy of James Bond or the Fantastic Four with a long time hatred of Dr. Venture--and a mysterious ninja, Otaku (which means geek in Japanese by the way rp footnote) Senzuri, who wants to get his hands on the Doc's invention. While Doc gives his presentation uptown, the boys get lost in the city's seamy downtown--meeting hookers, muggers and drug dealers as they flee The Monarch. And of course, no family science fiction action adventure story would be complete without supersonic jet airplanes, mummies, crocodiles and army guys."

One episode dealt with a one of the Venture brothers having a painful problem with what he called his "no-no's" At the end of the episode they do a public service announcement for the Scrotal Safety Society It's a good watch...set your TIVO's.

Posting will be slow for about the next 3 weeks and then should pick up a bit. Coaching makes everything a little behind (not complaining), just letting folks know.
I would also like to invite you to submit questions for me to answer in a series I will call "Ask me cuz I am kind of old" Questions can be about anything from the 70's and up like "did I have an afro?" to "what did I wear?" to "what did I watch for cartoons?" or even political questions such as "did President Carter's failure in Iran cause him to lose to Reagan in the 1980 presidential election?"
